Responding to God's call.

In 2012, Barb and I were serving a church in Wisconsin. I was the pastor, and Barb was deeply committed to prayer ministry and the care of women, faithfully sharing her gifts with the church. We were certain we were exactly where God wanted us to be.

Then an unexpected invitation arrived.

Bishop Chris Luswetti of Eldoret, Kenya wrote to us, saying, "Come, teach our pastors who have no Bible and no resources. They need good teaching." I replied honestly, "I don't minister in Africa. I have a church to pastor."

At the same time, I was teaching my congregation from Acts 8 — the powerful account of God expanding His kingdom beyond familiar boundaries. One verse stood out: "Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, 'Go south to the road — the desert road — that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.'" (Acts 8:26). Philip was experiencing a flourishing ministry in Samaria, yet when the Spirit redirected him, Scripture simply says, "So he started out." (Acts 8:27).

My message to the church was clear: Respond to God's call.

Then I stopped. Was God calling me to Kenya?

As circumstances unfolded and prayer continued, the answer became undeniable: Yes, He was.

The first trip

Our first trip to Kenya in 2012 confirmed what Bishop Chris had told us. Pastors were hungry for God's Word. For four days we taught under a tent in Langas, one of Kenya's largest impoverished regions. By the end of that time, our hearts were convinced: They need more teaching.

During that same visit, we met 50 orphaned children living in severe hardship. They slept on thin mats in a small room, had little food, and played in a dirt yard. We were deeply moved — but at the time, we had no idea how we could help.

Back home, our initial response to the pastors' need was simple. I began sending daily email teachings to Bishop Chris. When we returned to Kenya in 2014, we discovered he had been printing and distributing hundreds of copies of those teachings to pastors throughout Kenya and neighboring countries. God was awakening us to something much larger than a single local church.

One With God, Inc.

In early 2015, we moved to Arlington, Tennessee to be near our family. No longer serving in a traditional pastoral role, we established One With God, Inc. on May 29, 2015. The purpose of this nonprofit was clear: to continue teaching pastors in Africa and to offer modest support to the orphaned children we had met in Kenya. That decision marked a turning point as God expanded our vision of His kingdom.

By early 2016, Highland Heights Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Cordova, Tennessee began supporting One With God, Inc with regular contributions to provide food for the children. This growing outreach became known as Mercy Mission Orphan Home and School.

That same year, we traveled to Ghana to teach pastors in the Upper East Region. With more pastors to teach and more children to feed, we returned home trusting the Holy Spirit to guide what came next.

God provided generously

Friends in Tennessee helped us establish golf tournaments and trivia events to raise funds for food. Churches we had served and attended stood with us. Other congregations joined in. Even people we had only recently met offered prayer and financial support.

Since 2015, God has steadily grown One With God, Inc. Today, the ministry teaches pastors through daily email lessons, conferences, radio and television broadcasts, and video recordings aired on Kenyan television. The work has expanded to drilling wells in three countries and building churches where believers gather for worship and teaching.

Mercy Mission has also grown. What began with 50 orphaned children now serves 250 children on a three-acre property. Together, they have built a school, a church, and two dormitories. Two wells provide clean water, and a kitchen, washing machines, and biodigestible toilets help ensure healthier living conditions.

One With God, Inc. directs all donations strictly to their intended purpose. We take no salaries. Administrative and mailing costs are covered only by designated gifts. When you give to One With God, Inc, you can trust that your support is directly caring for God's people and advancing His kingdom.
